As a child, I was always interested in science, especially the life sciences. As I grew older, so did those interests. In high school, I enrolled in every possibly science course I could including AP courses. I exceled in these classes and decided to pursue my passion in college.
At Union University, I earned a degree in Biology. Throughout my undergraduate career, I planned on entering medical school. As I approached graduation, however, I decided that I would rather not apply to medical school.
Immediately after graduation, I worked in food manufacturing. I worked to set up lab testing protocols and to train staff on testing procedures, data interpretation, and statistics. Through this experience, I learned that I wanted to pursue a career in education.
I believe that my real-life experiences along with my 9 years of teaching in the public school setting make me an excellent tutor. I have developed working strategies to help students with difficult content, especially in the sciences. I have tutored many students and have great success with helping students increase standardized testing scores while learning content for college courses.
As a teacher, I hold a masters of education in biology along with a highly qualified status in general science which allows me to teach any science course from sixth through twelfth grade. I have received teacher of the month on several occasions. In past years, I have worked with at risk students and have worked to develop individualized plans for students who want to advance their studies. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a life sciences Teacher for the last 9 years. I have always had a great passion for the subject. This passion led me to pursue a bachelors degree in biology. I hold a BS in biology and a masters in biology education. I have years of successful tutoring and educational experience.
During my undergraduate studies, I conducted my research in the area of microbiology. I have previously tutored students in this topic. I have been a life sciences teacher for 9 years which includes instruction in basic microbiology.
