About Steve

Hi! I'm Steve. I'm a professional sign language interpreter. I'm nationally certified and have been signing for more than twenty years. I love teaching others the rich and beautiful language of the Deaf! I have an EIPA 4.4, FL QA 3.0, have passed the NIC and EIPA written tests, and I have my interpreting license in Alabama...what does all that even mean?? It means I am good at what I do and I love my job!

I have taught sign language classes for ten years, from beginner signers all the way up to certified interpreters, all over the Southeast. I'd love to teach you too! And I promise, we'll have fun!

In addition to interpreting, I'm a professional writer. I am on staff with two magazines, have multiple articles in print publications, and I am a published author with an e-book on writing skills on Amazon. Language is my passion, no doubt about it! I love to proofread, copy edit, and teach others to fall in love with the English language.

I have three years of University study behind me plus two years of Bible college. I am a lifelong learner, and have served as a youth pastor and worship leader.

Contact me as soon as possible to start your new journey!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I attended Bible College via Berea distance learning through the Assemblies of God Church and Master's Commission (ministry internship program) for two years. I have also served as a Staff Member (Youth Pastor and Worship Leader) and have extensive experience teaching youth groups, serving as a substitute for the regular pastor, and teaching small groups.

English

In addition to being a staff writer for a Magazine and website, I'm a professional writer, published in various local print publications and online blogs as well. I've been writing and winning contests all my life. I love to read and write and help others grasp our lovely language to the best of my ability.

Grammar

I have been writing professionally since 2010. I'm an absolute grammar geek, but I love the English language. Grammar is wildly important in my job and I love to each others the tricks of my trade.

Hard Of Hearing

I am a nationally certified sign language interpreter with more than twenty years of sign language experience and involvement in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

My roommate in college was profoundly Deaf and I have served as an interpreter in both the K-12 setting and the post-secondary level for several years.

Literature

As a published author, literature is my world. I aced my Literature classes at the University of Montevallo and I write daily. I'm also a voracious reader.

Photography

I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer. I've been shooting professionally since 2006. I have more than 50 weddings under my belt and countless families, children, couples, and more.

Piano

I've been playing piano since I was five years old. I was a youth pastor and worship leader for 10 years playing piano. Piano is a joy of mine.

Proofreading

As a professional writer, I work with my colleagues to proofread their articles and books. I have been writing professionally for the past six years in various local print publications and online magazines/blogs.

Public Speaking

I have been a youth pastor and worship leader since 2010. Prior to that, I was a member of the local community theater, during and after college. I am a skilled public speaker, extremely confident and comfortable with what I do and I am a natural teacher. It's truly something I love and would enjoy helping others with.

Reading

I am a published author, a professional blogger, and an avid reader. I have been tutoring outside of Wyzant for more than ten years.

Sign Language

I have been a member of the Deaf community since the age of 12. I have been signing for twenty years and been a Nationally Certified and State licensed sign language interpreter since 2008.

I have taught sign language classes at the church, community, and interpreter education levels across the Southeast.

Vocabulary

I'm a professional writer. As a staff writer for a Magazine, I'm always looking for the best word choices to convey the perfect image for my stories. I have aced all my vocabulary classes and tests, from grade school through college. Vocabulary is my thing!

Voice (Music)

I've been singing since I performed my first solo at the age of six. I've been a worship leader since 2010 and been in some sort of choir all my life.

Writing

I am a professional writer. I have been blogging regularly for multiple online magazines since 2010 and have won numerous awards for my writing during my school-aged years and beyond. I am a staff writer for a Magazine and website and I've been published in local papers as well.
