Not only do I feel that learning is one of the best ways to enrich oneself or one's child, but also that if it is done right learning should be enjoyable and open the student's eyes to the wonder of knowledge about the world around them.

As a tutor, I see my role as coming alongside the student and helping them to not only gain more knowledge of a certain subject area or more ability in a certain skill, but also to help them become better, more effective, and more confident learners. I am currently a graduate student at Western Michigan University studying medieval history, but don't let this fool you. I am a capable teacher, able to tutor a wide variety of subjects from elementary reading and phonics to Algebra to Latin, in addition to history, writing, literature, philosophy, study skills, critical thinking, and more! I have worked through WyzAnt before as a reading tutor for an eight-year-old over the summer, and have spent the last two years working with college students in history classes as a TA, and have also taught a year of high-school math. Before coming to Kalamazoo I worked as a tutor for two years in the history department of my undergraduate institution, Covenant College, helping other students to hone their writing abilities and improve their study skills.

I tend to work best one-on-one but am not adverse to working with larger groups as I do have some classroom experience. I am not an overly quick tutor, but I am thorough and will patiently work with a student on a problem until he or she has mastere
