I would wholeheartedly recommend Nikki to anyone learning Italian. She is Italian, breathes Italian and is a wonderful person, mother and each lesson was like being with a good friend. If we decide to continue on our quest to become fluent in Italian we will certainly continue with her. For now we are heading to the Italian Island Sardinia and will be able to speak some Italian on our cycling tour because we had Italian lessons with Nikki!
She has been in Italian immersion since kindergarten but as the program ends in 5th grade, I wanted to see what her skills were before she enters 6th grade this fall (as I myself do not speak Italian). The program will not continue as immersion in 6th grade, it will focus more on grammar and vocabulary. Through all of this, conversation has been the the laggard. Most people wonder why after so many years my daughter doesn't simply look at them and begin speaking Italian.

From there she recommended several different books, one on grammar, one on verb conjugation and several different Italian story books some with audio CDs. Our lessons are broken down into sections. First a conversation in which Giovanna asks questions and we have a dialogue in Italian. Second, a section devoted to a new element of grammar and finally an extremely fun part where I read from one of the Italian story books helping in learning new vocabulary and pronunciation.
