As a tutor, I focus on helping you identify what your instructor is looking for in a good answer, and help you understand (1) how to spot the issues your instructor is raising, (2) how to find answers to those issues, and (3) how to present those answers in an effective way. This kind of analysis is what I love to do, and will help you obtain academic success regardless of the field or career you are interested in. My goal is to help you learn and not just feed you answers.
MATH: I can help you with Story problems, Geometry, Algebra (Pre, I, or II), Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, and Statistics (including MS Excel and SPSS). I also have experience helping students with integrated math programs.
SCIENCES: General, Anatomy, Astronomy, Chemistry, Genetics, and Physics (Classical, Mechanics, Statics, and Electromagnetism).
SOCIAL STUDIES: Philosophy, Economics, History, Government & Politics, and Psychology.
ENGLISH & WRITING: Papers, Essays, Presentations, Public Speaking, Debate, Research, Organization, Proofreading, Vocabulary, MS Word, MS Presentations.
PROBLEM SOLVING & ANALYSIS: Test taking (ACT, SAT, PSAT, GMAT, etc.), Logic, and Study skills.
I provide a free 30 minute telephone or personal meeting (your choice) to let you learn about me and my approach and for me to learn about you, your needs, and your assignments, and setup a schedule of sessions. This gives me an opportunity to obtain and prepare for any texts, schedule sessions, and discuss a general plan for our sessions to meet your needs. For the first meeting, I would appreciate you bring the textbook or provide the ISBN numbers of any textbooks, a copy of any syllabus or assignment lists, or assignments, that you want assistance with.
Don't worry if you forget any of this. Part of my process is to send you email or text reminders about what to bring to our sessions, when they are and where we will meet. My hours are very flexible, and I can accommodate your schedule: afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends that work for you.
I also will provide negotiated discounts for sessions/time spent over the phone/internet. This can be particularly productive for writing, math or science assignments to be reviewed ahead of time, or proofread, so that any face-to-face time can be spent on helping you understand how and why the changes are needed.
I am willing to discuss discounted group rates (including for group research projects or presentations).
I require 24-hour notice if you want to cancel a face-to-face session without paying the scheduled fee. As a professional, I believe such fees are part of obtaining professional services and to respect the value of my time. At the same time, I recognize that unexpected things can arise without warning. Accordingly, I am willing to apply up to half this payment as a credit for a replacement session provided I receive at least 4 hours advance notice.
Generally, I include travel costs in my base rate. But for clients involving round-trip travel of more than 20 minutes, we will arrange a reasonable travel adjustment, usually through adding some of the travel time to the length of the lesson.
I am a law school graduate currently pursuing academic studies in psychology (with an emphasis in measurement, analysis, and statistics). My undergraduate foundations (from the University of Wisconsin at Madison) for these fields include extensive work in Philosophy, Economics, and Mathematics (including math for the physical sciences, e.g. Physics). My current studies require me to stay current with the latest methods of research (in the humanities, social sciences and the sciences), presentations, and public speaking (both for style and substance).
