I received my degree from the University of Redlands in Performance studies on the Trombone and Guitar. I was also a grant recipient winner for a chance to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK. At the academy, I studied with Denis Wick, former Principal Trombonist of the London Philharmonic, as well as Ian Bousfield, Principal Trombonist of the Vienna Philharmonic.
As a guitarist, I have been in numerous groups in many varieties of styles - from singer/songwriter, to blues, to straight ahead jazz, to classic rock, to alternative rock, and to metal. I also play and sing in a Seattle band.
My approach to teaching is a fusion between the worlds perfect American big sound, with the style and finesse emphasis on European approach.
That being said, it all starts with the basics of learning how to practice - keeping it efficient, smart, and most of all, fun; learning style - being able to become accustomed to any genre, whether playing orchestral, jazz, rock, or even marching band; and finally, learning how to perform - getting over nerves is never easy! But I have a few tricks that help.
I'm currently a new resident to the area and I am looking to share my knowledge to as many people as I can! I'm here as a resource, and I would love to help you.
I've taken many music history classes through the Bachelors of Music degree - this includes the following: American Music History, Western Music History, 3 Non-Western Music History (Asian Music, African Music, and Jazz History), History of Pop Music, and Ethnomusicology.
I earned a Bachelor of Music - required to pass 2 years (4 semesters) of sight singing, which I accomplished and loved. I teach three ways: Kodaly Method of Solfege (with hand signs), in Absolute Pitch, and by numerical scale degree.
Excellent child tutor — He definitely knows how to teach children notes on the guitar. His pace is just right and slows down when he sees that the kid has trouble. Would highly recommend him as a tutor! ...
