I have been tutoring all ages (4th grade through adult) for around six years now. I have familiarity with the IB Math and Chemistry programs having successfully tutored students at Skyline HS. I specialize in giving struggling students the skills to be successful in the classroom.
By far, my favorite subjects are math and science, but I love to show the tricks for test taking for ASVAB, TEAS, MCAT, Compass, SAT and ACT exam. I specialize in identifying the roadblocks to your success and getting you to your goal. I can also help students understand their style of learning and assist with study skills.
My philosophy in tutoring is to build confidence and academic proficiency so I can release the student.
I look forward to working with you and seeing you succeed.

Where do I begin? My son Alex is highly capable, and has very lofty goals. He took his SAT and ACT on his own without tutoring or even having entered his junior year of high school (thereby not having had many of the classes) and did respectably. He wanted better, because he wants the most options when choosing a college. We were recommended to Stephanie from another of her students and signed up.
She met with Alex once a week, and was always VERY flexible with his schedule (and tardiness...). No matter how stressed he was about homework or practice tests before seeing Stephanie, he always came back reassured and confident. Sometimes her advice was the same as the advice I'd given him, but it was somehow much better received coming from her. She relates to teens very well. Alex would take the practice tests, and then they'd go over them to see where he was weak and needed extra help, and they would focus on that.
Through her help and encouragement and belief, as well as her many tricks and tips to master the test, Alex increased his SAT score by 150 points. Yes, you read right, 150 points and his composite ACT by EIGHT points!!!
Do yourself a favor, don't debate this. Just choose Stephanie. She is worth every cent, and will be remembered forever and recommended to all!!!
I asked my son to rate his session with Stephanie today on a scale of 1-10. He rated it a 12. Pretty amazing coming from a 16 year-old boy on a Friday afternoon after a long week of school and homework. In just 3 sessions, he's gone from failing test scores to a B on his last test. She is amazing and we feel very fortunate to have found her through WyzAnt!
My son was quickly falling behind and Stephanie has been able to get him back on track in just a few sessions. He comes away from the tutoring sessions feeling much more confident and that will help him be successful in his classes. We are very happy we connected with Stephanie and feel very confident that he will thrive under Stephanie's tutelage in Chemistry and Algebra 2.
Stephanie is an amazing tutor. Not only is she an effective teacher, she's also flexible and understanding. I highly recommend her as a tutor.
I loved working with Stephanie. She is a very good listener and very patient. She is humble and non-judgmental. Great sense of humor. I was looking for a tutor, but ended up with a good friend.
She was great, clear as day, funny, lively, and full of energy. Her examples were simple and easy to understand. I enjoyed my lesson. Stephanie was very patient with me when I didn't understand. She didn't mind explaining or repeating things in simpler terms.
Stephanie helped my daughter go from receiving D's and E's on chemistry quizzes and tests to a "B"! My daughter even states that Stephanie is helping her understand the concepts. I'm so glad I found Stephanie. She is a total gem.
My son was struggling with Geometry, but now his confidence is up and he is doing much better in the class. Thanks, Stephanie, for all your help.
I loved my tutoring session with Stephanie. She was great, very personable, funny, and able to really help me focus on what I needed to study. She helped me create a study plan and I know she has dramatically improved my score. I would recommend her to anyone! Thanks again Stephanie!
My daughter and I feel very blessed to have Stephanie as her tutor. Not only is she helping with physics and math, but how to study, SATs, and being a teenager in general.
I sit in on many of my son's sessions with Stephanie, and always find her upbeat,
encouraging and very helpful. We have been very pleased with her willingness to be flexible with our sessions due to other scheduled activities, even meeting on a Sunday once before a test.
Thank you Stephanie for making a difference in my son's life, by helping to find confidence in himself with what he already knows deep down inside.
I have struggled with math since I was in middle school. Struggled all through high school, and into college. I obtained my degree in Geography, and never thought that I would need to use much math, other then the simple formulas for some of my classes. This past summer of 2012, I decided to make the big leap, and start the process of joining the military.
But with the military, comes the ASVAB. Which has high school math. You might think "oh, high school math, no big deal". Well I have been out of high school for over 6 years, so most of that math has flew the chicken coop, and was long gone. So I decided to swallow my pride, and gave up on trying to reteach myself the math. I decided it was a smart investment to get a tutor.
Stephanie T. just so happened to be my tutor. And I won't lie, forever has my life changed. She was very patient with my struggle to grasp even simple maths that I have long forgotten. Pushed me to better myself, and focus on what was important. Never did she belittle my efforts, but rather encouraged and coerced the best out of me. She provided me with books to study from, because I could not afford to buy them. She let me over extend the time limit on books, to ensure that I would be able to sufficiently study. She would meet when was convenient with me and worked around my work schedule.
To put it simply, I took the ASVAB to join the Coast Guard (the branch that is very picky with their candidates) yesterday 03/20/2013. I won't say my score, but I will say, that I did so well, that I opened up every job opportunity possible within the USCG. I also scored high enough to eventually go officer, if I choose.
Without Stephanie T. I would of never been able to reach this goal. She provided me with the knowledge and confidence to reach my true potential. And that has forever changed my life.
Thank you Stephanie!
My son is the student, he was very positive after his session with Stephanie. She was encouraging and patient with him.
Stephanie has been very helpful in providing additional instruction and explanation in physics and pre-calculus. She is patient, asks good questions to understand where I need help and provides thorough examples to explain complex problems. She provides clear feedback after each lesson and has really helped me get back on track and keep up with my assignments.
This tutor is very positive and encouraging, despite tutoring very difficult subjects (tutoring daughter in calculus). Makes plans in advance to make sure to student gets timely help. Communicates via several avenues, email, texts, etc. Would recommend her to anyone who needs help with pre-calc, trig, calculus. She knows her stuff.
Stephanie is awesome. She has a love for teaching that is awe inspiring. She is extremely positive and is very accessible. We really like her.
Stephanie has been a huge blessing to my daughter. She's been patient and extremely helpful, she helped my daughter's grade go from a D to a B in a matter of weeks! Very impressed with Stephanie, I'm confident you will be too!!
Stephanie is very patient ans positive with my niece. She has struggled in math for years and Stephanie has really helped her understand the concepts. I would definitely recommend Stephanie!
We are very impressed with Stephanie's willingness to be so accomodating on such short notice. Our 8th grade son, who struggles in Algebra, was very impressed with her clarity and patience. This appears to be an excellent start to a great tutor!
Stephanie T. was a patient, and kind tutor who has great ideas for writing. She offers helpful hints, but also expects her pupil to come up with their own ideas.
We have had the most positive experience with Stephanie! I would encourage anyone to use her. She is very patient and positive with my daughter, who struggles with self esteem. She is getting through to her and I'm seeing amazing progress after only three sessions! I highly recommend Stephanie! She's a sure thing!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've played clarinet since the age of 9, won awards at the Kingco Conference Solo Ensemble Contests and performed at two State solo competitions. In addition, I played for the Seattle Youth Symphony and represented our state in the Northwest Band and then orchestra, as well as the John Philip Sousa Band.
Although I did not pursue music as a major at the UW, I did go on to be the clarinet teacher at a music academy in Issaquah for over 5 years. I have taught privately for almost 20 years.
I have four children ages: 5-15 and have tutored similar ages for the past few years. From learning shapes, colors, letters and numbers to learning simple addition and subtraction, I have some experience with montessori methods using manipulatives and other objects to help teach the younger elementary school age all that they need to build on in the upper elementary ages. I also have taught 4-6th graders so I am familiar with the building approach for English / Grammar, Math, Sciences and Social Studies.
After leaving the University of Washington with my Bachelors of Science, I decided to go back to take the MCAT test and prepare for entrance into medical school. I took the test twice and enrolled in the Kaplan prep class for the MCAT as well.
I have been using MS Outlook since 1991. As a project manager, I used this program to send email communications to my sponsors and other stakeholders on the project. I also used it to take votes for post project parties and tracking invitations to meetings. This is a powerful tool that I can help you use more of!
As a project manager for over 12 years, MS Project was my tracking tool of choice. I could write macros, print out different reports depending on my audience and of course, use it to capture all information that I needed regarding time and budget on my project.
I love publisher for the quick newsletters, marketing pieces, and more. I have used this application since 1995. It is one of my favorites. If you need help getting it to do what you need, let me know. I can help!
I have been a soccer coach with Covington Community sports since 2008. When I was young, I played select soccer for 6 years before I had a knee injury which took me out of the game. I also won soccer skills contests sponsored through Coca Cola in my age group (first place local and third place in the state).
Now, I love to coach. I encourage while giving the players new opportunities to try skills in teamwork and individual soccer skills as well.
Study skills are essential for any student not only for their present academic career but also for college and work.
I have been working with middle school and high school students on specific study skills, like goal setting, organization, reading comprehension, listening skills, and more since 2010. These skills are essential to success now and into college and work.
I am an accomplished vocalist who has been teaching voice lessons during the past four years. I was a vocalist with the Northwest Gospel Jazz band for 5 years. I have also been performing at weddings for the past 20 years.
I do stress proper warmups and warmdowns as well as voice strengthening exercises. I also want my students to know how to read notes. In addition, we work on ear training to ensure pitch is right where it should be.
