I have a PhD and lots of experience teaching English. I have taught literature and writing to students from 1st grade through college. I like to make learning fun, and my method of teaching writing is particularly effective. I also find helping students improve their SAT scores and write winning college entrance essays very rewarding. I have some great success stories. Let me know if you'd like to see my references. And while I'm not a native speaker of French, I love the language and culture and am experienced and successful at teaching introductory French in ways that make it fun for young or old. I also enjoy teaching introductory Spanish. I have several Spanish students currently that can tell you how I have helped them to succeed in their high school Spanish courses. Ms. Julie has been of great help this past months. I would not have been able to get accepted to Yale without her help. She helped me with my essays from the beginning to the very end, always there through every step of the way. She also helped me with with anything I needed for my AP English class. She always finds the time to help me, even with my crazy schedule. She is truly the best!!
Julie was prompt on arrival and professional. I spoke with her for a few minutes and then left her with my daughter. My daughter liked her. Julie left her with homework and SAT books to study. This is the first meeting, so we will know more after a couple of times!
Julie is an outstanding tutor who has not just helped my niece raise her reading and writing SAT score but also helped her with the college essay process. My niece got accepted to her dream college today and we couldn't have done it without Julie's help. THANK YOU Julie for all your work.
Julie is patient, easy to contact, and an overall great tutor. My writing skills have never been my strong point. Julie helped me to better organize my arguments and/or statements within certain writing assignments and how to communicate those clearly to the reader. I had intended to take the GRE exam until circumstances changed that path, which was my reason for needing tutoring. Even though I did not take the exam, I know my scores would have improved drastically as my weekly writing scores in graduate art history courses have improved as well. The strategies she provided to preparing for the exam were useful not only for the GRE, but for my own general vocabulary and writing practices. I highly recommend Julie as a tutor.
Ms. Julie taught my son French during summer to help him head start with french on his 7th grade.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a teaching credential for California for High School English. In addition, I have completed coursework toward an elementary credential including educational theory, child development, elementary math, a reading specialist course, as well as many writing workshops. Most importantly, I have experience teaching grades K-6th in a private girls' school in California. I am also homeschooling my own children and tutoring many others of elementary ages.
For many years, I have taught English classes at the high school and college levels that were more than 50% non-native speakers of English. I have taken classes and attended seminars to learn how best to serve these populations. My experience and training has allowed me to help students achieve their goals quickly and effectively.
I have many years' experience teaching Spanish to students of all ages. My PhD is in Comparative Literatures, which means I studied literature in different languages, one of which was Spanish. In addition to studying Spanish at the graduate level, I also lived and taught in Mexico City. I like to make learning languages practical and fun.
