My name is Chris and I have been a high school history teacher for eleven years. I have an Undergraduate Degree in Journalism and a Masters Degree in History. Prior to getting into education I worked in software development for several years but was increasingly drawn to a career in teaching. In my classrooms I have worked with a variety of different learners and have become a very flexible, open-minded teacher as a result. My tutoring philosophy is much the same. I work with students where they are and focus on their particular learning style. I try to build a real relationship of trust with students because only then can we identify their true needs and begin the difficult work of addressing them. I have helped many students who were failing or struggling in academics go on to succeed in college. I think the learning process should be enjoyable and stimulating. I often tell my students if they are bored and disinterested it probably means I'm not doing something right.
I have tutored students in English, writing, SAT prep, note taking, study skills, reading comprehension, and social studies.
