I enjoy helping other people understand technical concepts. I find that the key is usually not rote memorization, but understanding the problem in the context which it will be solved. Whether that is understanding how basic geometry relates to derivatives, or how computer operating systems work, it's about getting a bigger picture.

I am a computer engineer by training and trade, and I have a mathematics minor. I frequently use both skills in my work, and often help new coworkers get up to speed on my projects. I can help on point problems or design syllabuses if necessary, but my goal is to always foster deeper understanding in my students.

Great guy and very knowledgeable. — Spent a good chunk of time with James as he helped me understand some complex ideas for my operating systems course. He also guided my thinking and optimized my code as I worked through a programming assignment. He was a massive help, would definitely use his time again. ...
