My master's degree is in curriculum and instruction. At present, I am particularly busy teaching ESL, ESOL, and preparation for the TOEFL exam. However, my undergraduate degrees are in secondary education, French, and English. I am an experienced public and private school teacher and tutor international university students in ESL and preparation for the TOEFL EXAM. Students at both the undergraduate and graduate level profit from my experiences of teaching and tutoring. Much of my coursework is already online, giving students an opportunity to practice and continue learning at home. I am presently teaching both face to face and online. The WyzAnt online platform makes it possible for me to teach students who are residing in another country.

My experiences with WyzAnt include tutoring SAT, ACT, and TOEFL test preparation, ESL/ESOL for the child and adult, and French. I expect students to continue studying and practicing after each tutoring session. Students will be assigned reading for comprehension and discussion, and a written assignment.

Since I thoroughly enjoy teaching and tutoring, I am glad to teach any age. My husband and I have three grown, married sons, and seven grandchildren who keep us on our toes in the real world.

Please do not ask me to teach if you are not truly committed to hard work and advancement. Be open to frequent reassessment and redirection in how best to see the progress we both seek. Any cancellations must be notified within at least 12 hours, so I can make alternate plans.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

My first minor was in Biblical studies. Having taught Sunday School for thirty years, Bible in the junior high Christian school, and a women's study at our church, I feel more than qualified to teach this subject. My husband was a minister for over thirty years. Together we also taught the young married couples.

I have studied and memorized the Scriptures in both English and French. I spend time daily in Bible reading and study.

English

I have taught English in both middle and high schools. Additionally, I taught English in the classroom and have had extensive tutoring opportunities with both home schooled students and international adults.

I have taught French as a second language. Teaching a foreign language made me particularly sensitive to teach good sentence structure and clarity.

ESL/ESOL

I am certified to teach English as a Second Language. I have been teaching students from several different countries including Saudi Arabia, India, China, Vietnam, Mexico, Canada (French-speaking) and Korea.

Since I have taught both English and French at the high school level, I have much experience in developing and organizing language lessons so that students acquire skills through a series of increasingly difficult assignments and projects.

The majority of my experiences of teaching English have been in the public school within an urban setting. Many of my students have been learning English as their second language. My travels abroad and experiences with new immigrants to America have given me an understanding of the language learner and an empathy toward their goals, aspirations, and needs.

Grammar

Since I teach both English and French at the high school level, I have experience in dissecting and organizing language lessons so the student acquires skills through a series of increasingly difficult assignments and projects.

TOEFL

My master's degree is in education. I thoroughly enjoy working with international young people and adults. I have some experience working with adults who have come to America for graduate education and professional advancement. I have found great satisfaction in helping some former students get admitted to excellent universities in the United States. Some have gone on to earn master's degrees. One is presently applying towards her doctrinal degree and is applying to teach at a local community college.
Additionally, I have a daughter-in-law who did not grow up in America. It has been a privilege to get to know her culture and see its strengths.

Vocabulary

I have taught vocabulary as an integral part of both English and French language courses.
Furthermore, I have created individualized lesson plans geared towards meeting the personal needs of various students. Students have used my lessons to heighten their scores for state and national exams. Some have been able to advance in their professions with more confidence, better able to express their goals and visions for the business.

Lastly, I have created some web pages that students use to practice the meanings of frequently misunderstood words, phrases and even idioms. The vocabulary on these interactive web pages is both professional and scholastic.

Do you have a number of students who enjoy learning games, or online quizzes, or instant feedback?  I enjoy using a few sites that prove both entertaining and reinforcing for several of my students.  Though some require an annual fee, I find these sites advantageous, time-saving and totally worth the small expense.
