I am a retired Naval officer and teacher. I was in the Navy for a 26-year career which included diplomatic tours in the Philippines and in Venezuela. After retiring I chose to become a teacher because of my love for learning and love of working with children. I was and still am a certified teacher in the State of New Mexico with endorsements in mathematics, science and language arts. I have taught physical science, chemistry, and AP chemistry at the high school level and earth and physical science at the middle school level. I have taught general math and algebra I at the middle school level. algebra I was taught as a high school credit course. I am a National Board Certified Teacher having completed my boards in 2009. I recently retired after 16 years.
I have specialized in tutoring both math (prealgebra and algebra I) and science (physical sciences and chemistry) as these subjects are often the most difficult to understand. My tutoring style is a combination of both hands on creativity and skill repetition depending on the student needs and learning style. I am flexible and while teaching will adjust my approach to that of the student's style. This seems to make the most effective combination for improving student achievement.
Being retired my schedule is very flexible and as such only require a two hour notice to cancel a session with the student. My concern is for the student and not necessarily my time.
Being flexible, I will tutor in the best possible location for the student. That is a public location, your home or my home.
I look forward to helping you achieve the results you desire.
