I am a mechanical engineer by training and have been tutoring since 2008, including two years of experience tutoring undergraduate engineering students at a top-ranked institute. I have received formal training as tutor, taken several courses on teaching methodology, and won an award for my tutoring work. I currently teach elementary- and high-school-level math at a local learning center. I can tutor at any subject level and provide ACT/SAT/GRE test prep, typically in one hour blocks once or twice per week. I can help you on your homework directly or help you learn the material conceptually so you're able to tackle a wide variety of problems. Whatever your age or background, I can help you succeed in your coursework!
I have been using various CAD and solid modeling programs for the past nine years, including AutoCAD, FreeCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, and CATIA. Most of my work in these programs is geared towards drafting engineering drawings. I have many years' experience helping others learn to use CAD software as well as troubleshoot issues in existing drawings.
I have eight years' experience coding in C. I have taken several courses that use extensive C programming (microchip programming, numerical solvers). I have some experience tutoring people in programming in a formal setting, but most of my experience is informal (e.g., helping coworkers with their code). When tutoring programming in general, my strategy is to teach the student the logic behind the structure and how to use references effectively. Rarely is route learning employed or encouraged.
I have five years' experience in C++ programming, mostly with numerical solvers. I have taken courses that employ C++ to solve problems in fluid mechanics, granular flows, and general engineering problems. I also have experiencing debugging and troubleshooting large C++ programs used by the modeling community.
Though my department was Mechanical Engineering, my graduate studies in powder mechanics were widely considered to fall within Chemical Engineering. I have attended several ChE conferences and read numerous papers in the field. I have experience tutoring Chemical Engineering students at the undergrad level, especially in subject areas which overlap with Mechanical Engineering.
I have over a decade's worth of experience in computer programming, including code development, debugging, maintenance, and teaching. Languages with which I'm familiar include (but are not limited to) C/C++, MATLAB, FORTRAN, and Java. Most of my programming experience is related to numerical methods (e.g., computational fluid dynamics), and I have tutored students in many different programming languages for engineering courses.
I have a mathematics minor and have taken five courses in differential equations (DE) and many others which apply them in an engineering setting. I have many years' experience tutoring students in DEs of all types, including PDEs. I can teach both theory and application for many different solution methods, including series solutions and Laplace transforms.
I've taken four courses in linear algebra at various levels and have tutored in the subject for over five years. My experience in using linear algebra is focused on numerical methods, but I have taught it in both practical and theoretical settings. I can also tutor linear algebra in engineering settings (e.g., solving large systems for vibration analysis).
I am an active Linux user and have been for over six years. I have experience in many of the popular Linux flavors (e.g., Ubuntu and Red Hat) as well as a number of niche varieties. I have experience with remote computing in a Linux environment and have written short guides on the subject. If you're looking for someone to help you understand Linux, particularly the command line, I'm both passionate about the subject and have practical experience. I am a mechanical engineer by training with two years of experience tutoring undergraduate engineering students at a top-ranked institute.
I have been an active MATLAB user for seven years and am familiar with many of the languages and programs it uses (e.g., C, Java, and gnuplot). I have been tutoring engineering students in MATLAB course material for the past five years and have ample program debugging experience. I also am familiar with many of the MATLAB extensions and packages (e.g., Simulink). I can handle cases ranging from basic (e.g., first programming experience) to complex (e.g., graduate student attempting to write a research script).
I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and have been tutoring students in the field for the past five years. I have worked with students on topics ranging from engineering fundamentals to advanced ME topics including (but not limited to) CFD, FEM, vibration analysis, and robotics. My tutoring approach in engineering is geared towards helping the student understand general concepts so they'll be able to tackle similar problems in the future.

Doesn't waste time/money — Kevin is very good working with my son on exactly what he needs and for the amount of time that he needs. He doesn't schedule "unnecessary" tutoring sessions or spend excessive time beating a dead horse! However, the proof will be in the pudding as my son had his first exam last night!! I will provide an update on the results!! Thanks Kevin! ...
