In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been using various CAD and solid modeling programs for the past nine years, including AutoCAD, FreeCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, and CATIA. Most of my work in these programs is geared towards drafting engineering drawings. I have many years' experience helping others learn to use CAD software as well as troubleshoot issues in existing drawings.
I have eight years' experience coding in C. I have taken several courses that use extensive C programming (microchip programming, numerical solvers). I have some experience tutoring people in programming in a formal setting, but most of my experience is informal (e.g., helping coworkers with their code). When tutoring programming in general, my strategy is to teach the student the logic behind the structure and how to use references effectively. Rarely is route learning employed or encouraged.
I have five years' experience in C++ programming, mostly with numerical solvers. Though my department was Mechanical Engineering, my graduate studies in powder mechanics were widely considered to fall within Chemical Engineering. I have been an active MATLAB user for seven years and am familiar with many of the languages and programs it uses (e.g., C, Java, and gnuplot). I have been tutoring engineering students in MATLAB course material for the past five years and have ample program debugging experience. I also am familiar with many of the MATLAB extensions and packages (e.g., Simulink). I can handle cases ranging from basic (e.g., first programming experience) to complex (e.g., graduate student attempting to write a research script).
