Bonjour! I would love the opportunity to work with you in French. I hold an MA in French, have studied in France, and have been to French-speaking countries 8 times in the past 16 years.

I taught high school French for 10 years, have taught all levels of high school, and am currently adjunct faculty at a local university. My principal honored me with his 'Shining Star' award in 2006, and in 2008 I was chosen as the distinguished alumna for the foreign languages department at the University of North Texas, where I received my Master's.

I have been a tutor for the past 5 years and have worked with both middle and high school students. I believe that a tutoring session should helpful and fun. I have a variety of learning games and activities that I use in my sessions so that all learning styles can be met. Let me help you learn French!

French

J'adore le français! Ever since I was little, I wanted to learn French. I took 4 years in high-school, majored in French in college, and I have an MA in French (4.0 GPA) as well.
I taught high-school French for 10 years, and have taught all levels, including AP. I am currently teaching French at Colorado School of Mines, where I brought back the French program after a 15-year hiatus. I love teaching and working with students.
I have tutored French for over 6 years, and have worked with elementary school students through adult learners. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies into my sessions and I like to make my sessions fun. I have a vast library of resources and can work with you on any or all of the 4 skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) and grammar as well. Learning games & partner activities are part of almost every session I give.
I have traveled to France 8 times since 1996, and have also been to Belgium, Switzerland, and Monaco. I am regularly complimented on my accent while in France. If you are looking to travel to France, I would love to help you plan your trip!
I truly enjoy working with all types of students and hope I can work with you as well!

Grammar

I love grammar! I have always been a strong grammar student, and my French classes re-inforced my English grammar knowledge. Gerunds, adverbs, prepositional phrases, direct objects, present participles, and more are no problem!

Study Skills

I have worked with many of my students to help with their organization and study skills. I have taught them how to use an assignment sheet and/or homework planner. I have also worked with students on how and what to highlight with a highlighter.

When dealing with reading passages or listening passages followed by questions, we have talked about how it is easier to focus on the passage when one reads the questions first.

I am a big fan of flashcards, as they are portable and allow students to work on material when they have a few minutes to spare. Plus, when they make the flashcards, they are learning as well.

Finally, I have told students that the best way to study is to do some review/study time each night, rather than try to cram before the test. By reviewing every night, the material can move from short-term to long-term memory and it will 'stick' better in the student's head.

Great Tutor! So Much Fun! — I really enjoyed working with Megan!I was studying for French III this summer and her sessions were packed with great exercises. She was very good about listening to what I needed to work on and bringing resources to help me really learn the material. Sometimes it seems daunting to get up and go to tutoring, but she always made it fun. I left looking forward to the next meeting! You'll really enjo ...
