I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1999. In order to obtain this degree, I studied upper level mathematics. Some of the classes I took included Calculus 1, 2, & 3 and Vector Calculus. In mathematics, in order to be successful in these upper level courses, one must have a good foundation in Algebra. Also, as a homeschool mother of an Algebra student, my Algebra skills are kept sharp helping explain the basics to her.
I am very strong in mathematics. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, which is dependent upon math. My proofreading qualifications became evident as I maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout college. I was able to make A's on all my English compositions, as well as essays in other subjects. I am very detail oriented, which helps me to notice grammatical mistakes.
My qualifications to tutor reading include my being a homeschool mother, my having a Bachelor of Science, and my past testing experience. First, as a homeschool mother of two, I have been teaching my children reading comprehension skills. I am well versed in the educational expectations of children with regard to reading comprehension skills and speed requirements (words per minute). Second, I received my Bachelor of Science from a school that places a high value on a liberal arts education. That education included two years of grammar and literature courses. Last, I made a 30 on the ACT with reading comprehension being one of my highest scores.
I lived in South America for 8 years where I learned to speak Spanish fluently. I had formal training from a language institute where I learned Spanish grammar and sentence structure along with pronunciation. Through everyday situations I learned culture and a wide variety of vocabulary. Here in the United States, native Spanish speakers assume that one of my parents is Hispanic and the other American. That, to me, speaks highly of my language level.
