I am a recent college graduate with a BA in Politics from the University of California Santa Cruz. While at school I was the captain of the cycling team for two years, while also playing drums in an up and coming rock band that performs both locally as well as tours nationally. My senior thesis was a comparison of the human rights issues involved in both the Holocaust and the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and was nominated for a Chancellor's award. I am a strong essay and creative writer, and have taken a variety of classes in political theory, as well as theory classes across the whole of the humanities and social sciences departments, with a special emphasis in history. I also took advanced fiction and playwriting. I have been playing drums for over 15 years and have performed in a variety of musical situations in front of audiences of up to 1000 people. I have worked in both group and individual situations with kids ranging from k-7th grade, and believe in working with the individual kid to find the type of instruction that works best for them.
For the drums I believe in first establishing a strong foundation in rudiments, reading, and listening because these are the skills that remain constant regardless of the situation one is playing in.
