I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska, where I was educated at a Jesuit high school. From there I moved up to the bay area by way of Los Angeles, where I studied screenwriting for two years at Loyola Marymount University (also Jesuit). There I was active on campus as president of College Democrats. I am currently finishing up an undergraduate degree in anthropology at San Francisco State University. There I have recently begun singing tenor in the men's choir. After graduation I intend to take a master's degree in consciousness studies through Rudolf Steiner college in preparation for work as a Waldorf educator.
For the past two years I have worked with children on the autistic spectrum using a mixed-approach of play and Lovaas-based Discrete Trial Training (DTT). For this job I have had to learn not only to be very patient with my clients, but to grab their attention by being fully animated and aware of their mental state. I am especially interested in the role of music therapy with autism, a subject which I have written on academically.
If you decide to pick me, you will find that I am very flexible and positive person, and that I excel at connecting the material we're studying to your personal experiences. My subject of expertise is human experience - i.e. psychology, english, art, and my teaching style is heavily experiential. My ethos is that your life is much larger than simply your schooling or your test scores, but that virtuosity - no matter what your passion is - demands discipline. I will help you achieve that discipline by simultaneously opening up new pathways for information and focusing the information to the task at hand.
I look forward to meeting you!
