 About Jacqueline:
Hello! I am currently a sophomore at Boston University with a major in International Relations and a minor in Russian. I studied Russian for four years at Staten Island Technical High School, and am continuing to study the language in college. I am at the top of my class in sixth semester Russian and Analysis of Russian Prose Texts. A member of several conversation groups and the Russian Cultural Society, I enjoy speaking this interesting language and would be happy to help anyone with grammar, speaking or writing. Music has been part of my life for a long time. I learned to play the flute close to eleven years ago. Throughout intermediate and high school, I benefited from private instruction and experience in my school band. Besides my school band, I have played with the Staten Island Community Band, the Boston University Concert Band, and the Boston University Flute Choir. I have also played for the New York State Music Association, by myself, with another flute player, and with a band. I would like to help young flautists improve their sound, strengthen their technique and tackle new repertoire! I’m passionate about both of these subjects would like to show others why they’re so great!

Learn More About Jacqueline's Experience:
Russian
I studied Russian for four years in high school and continue to study it at Boston University. Last semester I received a 4.0 in fifth semester Russian. I am currently taking sixth semester Russian and Analysis of Russian Prose (in Russian). In these classes, which are each three hours per week, I am responsible for translating Russian short stories (such as "Queen of Spades" by Pushkin and "The Winning Ticket" by Chekov). I am also responsible for writing essays on Russian history and literature. These essays are usually between 7 and 10 pages long. These classes have a strong speaking component. I have given several speeches and am asked to discuss different topics on a regular basis. Finally, we work very hard to understand Russian's grammatical laws. I have spent many hours reviewing cases, gender, agreement, conjugation, exceptions, fleeting vowels, simple and compound comparatives, etc!!! I currently participate, and have participated for the last two years, in Russian conversation groups and private tutoring. Russian is my minor, and therefore demands a lot of my attention and time. I will make an excellent tutor because Russian is not my native language! Unlike many native Russian speakers, I understand what concepts are difficult for English speakers. I have vigorously studied the different cases and grammar rules that are essential to speaking and writing Russian. Many native speakers judge a student's sentence based on whether it "sounds right." Because I have had twelve semesters of formal instruction, I can tell a student if something "sounds right,” and more importantly, WHY it sounds right!
