After graduating from Roosevelt High School and the Central Academy Advanced Placement program I studied at Carleton College, one of the top five liberal arts schools in the country. Before deciding on Spanish Literature and Language fluency as a major I spent a significant time studying towards Mathematics, Comparative Religious Studies, Asian Languages, and Cinema and Media studies; actually working as a free lance video producer for the campus. While attending school I participated in various one on one and group community enrichment activities including interpreting and education at a local free clinic, mentoring a variety of ages and assisting with school work, and leading reading groups for gifted and talented elementary school students. As a recent graduate I have continued to focus my efforts on the educational development of others by working in the non-profit realm as a program specialist for NFJP which helps those with long term agricultural experience find higher education opportunities. I love meeting new people, sharing the thrill of self improvement and discovery, and believe that with the proper tools and motivation anyone can actualize any hope they have for themselves or the world around them…I am also prone to attacks of acute idealism. |

My undergraduate degree is in Spanish Language and Literature. While I was working towards my major I participated in a number of activities that revolved around inter-linguistic education. During my off campus study program I helped teach English in Mexico to earn some extra money, I helped lead diabetic education sessions to a Spanish speaking audience, and I have worked for a non-profit organization as a program specialist for the job assistance program that focused on both the health and education needs for underprivileged immigrant farm workers. I often worked one on one with clients who had unique language needs and we would work to overcome any problems they were having so that they would have greater options in the domestic job market. I have also taken classes and continue to study Japanese and Chinese and so believe I have strong awareness of the benefits and the pitfalls associated with learning a new language and am eager to help those in need and to share my firsthand experience.
