About
Elizabeth: |
Hi! My name is Elizabeth, but my friends call me Liz. I recently graduated from UC Davis with a music major in theory and composition, and I've been playing piano for over 13 years. I continue to compose and play often, and have performed in many recitals and musicals in and around Davis. Additionally, I've always excelled in academics, particularly in English, history, and foreign languages. I minored in history, with an emphasis in pre-modern Europe, and hope to one day obtain a Ph.D. I also have over six years of study in Spanish, and have tutored a Spanish-speaking student in English. I graduated with honors from UC Davis. I'm interested in being a tutor in any one of these subjects- music, history, English, Spanish, or piano lessons- because all of them represent a different passion of mine. |

composition (music)
I have had a passion for music composition since high school, when I fell in love with film scores. I majored in music at UC Davis with an emphasis in composition and theory, and studied under composers like Andrew Frank, Sam Nichols, Ross Bauer, and Pablo Ortiz at the music department there before receiving my degree. I've written pieces for piano, string quartet, choir, and numerous other ensembles, and I've had experience in scoring a short film and in composing electronic music. Most of my composing is done on the music program Sibelius, though I'm extremely adept at composing by hand as well (it just takes a bit longer!). I'm well-versed in music theory and history, and have a very good understanding of the more subtler workings of music beyond just what sounds good. Composing has long been a passion of mine, and something that is very near to my heart.

piano
I have been playing piano for almost fourteen years, about thirteen of which I was actively taking lessons. I can play pieces on an advanced level and enjoy a wide variety of styles and composers, from Bach to Bartok. Additionally, I majored in music at UC Davis and received extensive music training there, studying with Lois Brandwynne for almost four years. I've accompanied various soloists and ensembles in recitals, including vocalists, trumpet players, a concert band, and a Mozart trio. I've also had experience playing in musicals, including The Last Five Years, Cabaret, and Man of La Mancha, and am now working on You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Besides for this, I also just enjoy playing and often spend my free time at the piano.
