About Loni:

I graduated from San Diego State University in 2006 achieving Summa Cum Laude with distiction in the major and received the Outstanding Biology Graduate of the Year Award. I did take my time through my undergraduate years and because of that I picked up more skills than just those associated with the biological sciences. I have a good foundation in the fine arts including drawing, watercolor, acrylic paint, and pastels. I also am very knowledgeable in the subject of photography. I can provide assistance with learning how to use programs like Microsoft Suites (sorry not good with Outlook), Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Since I did not pick a specialty in the field of Biology I can assist with a variety of subjects including introductory ecology, anatomy, physiology, parasitology, genetics, and biochemistry. I may be able to help with beginning physics as well, but I will admit now that I am better conceptually than mathematically in the subject.

More On Loni's Subjects:

  • anatomy

I took anatomy at Santa Barbara City College, which offered a cadaver program at the time. While we did not dissect the cadavers ourselves, I do understand how they are used as a teaching and testing tool. The class was not as detailed as it could have been, but was beyond the introductory course taught at high schools. I am familiar with all body systems, and most importantly useful ways to study them since anatomy is mostly memorization. I am confident that I could tutor anatomy up to an intermediate college level.

  • biochemistry

In my college education I have taken 4 courses that dealt with the subject of biochemistry, from introduction to an advanced level course that was for graduate students as well as undergraduates. I know the founding concepts of cell metabolism, differences in prokaryotes vs. eukaryotes, cellular "mechanics" and a variety of other topics related to the cell and the impact on the organism. I scored an A in 3 of the courses, and an A- in one. I have also taken microbiology, which has many core concepts that correlate with biochemisty.

  • elementary (k-6th)

Due to my college education, I have become well trained in how to study, the different methods of studying, and how to figure out what works for who. Often with K-6 children, it is not that they are having extreme difficulty with learning, but how to learn. Often just teaching someone techniques to aid them in learning can add a huge boost to their confidence. Also, while I was growning up as a child in the foster care system, I often lived with children much younger than myself. Since I was good at my studies, I would usually be the person who helped the other children with their homework and just general knowledge of these subjects. This has left me with the means to communicate subject matter effectively to younger students.

  • photoshop

I am very familiar with using Photoshop for photo editing. My skills include a good knowledge of how to use levels, curves, unsharp mask, adjustment layers, hue and saturation, various selection methods, and filters. I am NOT familiar with how to use Photoshop as a graphic design tool.

  • physical science

So long as the physical science course is just a basic course teaching the foundations of physical science, such as states, formation, differences in the various elements, etc. I do not forsee any difficulty I would have tutoring the course.

  • physiology

I have taken intermediate physiology and advanced physiology labratory courses during my undergraduate programs. I earned and A in each course. I understand the material and I am very familiar with concepts such as circulatory gas exchange, action potential, muscle contraction, and how the kidneys remove waste.

  • zoology

I am very capable of teaching how animals are classified, what those classifications are, and the traits that led to that. Also can teach the differences and similarities between animal classes, how environment effects animals, and taxonomy. Note my teaching experience for animal biology on my resume.
