About Cindy:

I am currently a graduating senior at UC Santa Barbara. I am a part time tutor/peer advisor for the Cal-SOAP program at Santa Barbara Junior High school. My favorite subjects to tutor are English (for ESL), Spanish, and history. I have been to Europe where I learned about European history as well as know a vast amount about Latin American history and ancient civilizations. I am a cultural anthropology major where I study different cultures in different parts of the globe as well as have experience on the archaeological end working with data that has been excavated by the graduate students at UCSB. I am a very determined person with high goals and expectations for myself as well as the individuals that I tutor. I feel that goal planning and monitoring of progress makes learning more productive and applicable to everyday life. I feel that something should be learned to enhance the quality of one's life and knowledge. It should be long lasting and that is what I strive to achieve when I tutor someone. I would like them to learn and remember what they have learned long after an exam because that shows me that I have done my job well. I also feel that goal planning will improve grades because there is a constant reinforcement of positive habits. Although I like to focus on goals and expectations, I also like to get to the point when I tutor. I try to explain what might be difficult to a student in the simplest way possible in order to avoid confusion. I also like to quiz on the material covered in a session. I have learned all that I know from the great tutors and teachers that have helped me throughout my entire college career and I feel that building a positive and professional relationship with the individual that is being tutored is highly important.
