I was born in Italy where I studied foreign languages and earned my degree in Comparative Languages and Literature. There I started my tutoring experience teaching English as a Second Language to young Italian students. Two years ago I moved to Chicago to take a Master’s in English at DePaul University; I worked at the Writing Center of DePaul for a couple of years, teaching writing, doing proofreading and editing for undergraduates; during these years I have developed wonderful relations with students from all over the world, of different ages and with majors in different fields. My teaching styles depend on the different needs of different students. Sometimes students know more than they think they do; by talking about an issue they become aware of it and of the solutions they can find by themselves. But to be able to do it they need somebody who can listen and intelligently understand and sympathize with them; I will be the person guiding the students to find the right questions. Sometimes, instead, when teaching English or a foreign language, knowledge of its grammar rules is necessary and I can show you that learning grammar can be not only useful but also fun.
For those who would like not only to learn the Italian language but also to know more of Italian culture, I am willing to have conversations (in Italian) on various topics, such as Italian fashion (have I mentioned that I am from Milan?), opera, food, and literature. Since I am a passionate reader I would love to convey to any American student the beauty and musicality of the Italian language and of its literature.
