About Holly:

As a teacher I create instruction and environments where students can flourish. I believe in giving children choices whenever possible so they can better comprehend the lesson and construct meaning. In doing this they will retain the information more efficiently and instill life-long learning skills. I believe in teaching technology because it is the future and students who are equipped with these assets are bound for success. Working with children has always been my strength and I have obtained experience with all ages due to my work history. I LOVE to motivate and inspire students! I am very flexible and accommodating to those who need me. I would be thrilled to be part of your child's success and academic growth.

More On Holly's Subjects:

  • clarinet

I began playing the clarinet in my primary elementary grades. I was in band, marching band, and color guard. I won several awards and played 1st/2nd chair throughout middle school. Now, I play for enjoyment and relaxation. I would be thrilled to help anyone who could use my assistance in learning this fabulous instrument!

  • elementary (k-6th)

I hold my M.A. in Elementary Education since May 2007. Currently I am substitute teaching in Valley View (Bolingbrook/Romeoville) and Plainfield district 202. I work with students from K-8th grades and enjoy each level at different degrees. I completed my student teaching in 5th grade at Lincoln Elementary school in Plainfield. What a wonderful experience! I learned so much and really thrived from preparing each individual for middle school. I love the independence the students display at this age and was very creative with all the subject areas. Currently, along with subbing, I am working towards my middle school endorsement in language arts, social science, and possibly science. I am always looking for ways to grow as a student and I am dedicated to provided my students the best possible instruction.

  • phonics

My resume reflects my work with Kindergarten and phonemic awareness, rhyming, and blending. As a reading specialist substitute teacher I was able to meet with small groups of Kindergarteners to enhance their phonics and other reading decoding. Generally, I would pick them up at their classroom, work on blending cards, chopping words, and read aloud books that rhymed letting them predict what words would come next. It was a great experience and I helped reach many struggling readers!

  • special needs

I was a substitute for mild to moderate special needs students grades K-2 in Romeoville. Disabilities included autisim, down syndrome, and cognitive delay. Progress monitoring and challenging each individual student were my daily goals. I also assessed them weekly due to the fact that they all had different learning, behavior, and social/emotional goals to meet. They were a wonderful group of students to work with and made significant progress under my instruction.

  • study skills

Overall, I have been in school 25 years and I am still continuing to better my education. My degrees include a B.A. in Communication Arts, Minor: Psychology; M.A. in Elementary Education. I am finishing my middle endorsements in social science, language arts, and science to obtain a M.A. in Secondary Education. My whole life I have always been an exceptional learner, not because of luck, but because of excellent study habits. Sometimes, I had to work harder that others to acheive an "A" but I did it! Along the way I have developed, and instill in my students, great study habits from notetaking and study guides to organization and highlighting. I love to share the gift of learning and studying with anyone who is interested!
