My name is Adrienne R., I am a first year teacher, I have been a substitute teacher for Washtenaw County Schools since April of 2007. This means that I have experience working with students at the elementary, middle and high school levels, as well as experience in activities outside of the traditional classroom. In the past, I have volunteered for various after school programs. Some of the recent activities that I have be a part of include; the After School Achievement Program (A.S.A.P) and the Science and Math Jam (SAM JAM) at East Middle School in Ypsilanti Public School District. I also volunteer some of my time to help out with the HOPE program at West Middle School which is also in the Ypsilanti Public School District.
I have worked in several different school districts so I am familiar with and enjoy working with administrators, teachers, parents and especially students. In addition to working with Ypsilanti Public School District, I have also had experience substitute teaching for Ann Arbor Public Schools, Lincoln Consolidated Schools and Willow Run Community Schools. Working with four different school districts has given me an advantage because I know that different schools are made up of different dynamics and that their is not just one correct way of running a successful school.
I have student teaching experience on the sixth and eighth grade levels, at both East and West Middle school in Ypsilanti. During my pre-student teaching and student teaching I taught English Language Arts with various teachers. This allowed me to learn various classroom management and teaching strategies. I have had a lot of experience with “at- risk” children and I particularly enjoyed working with these students. The careful preparation of lessons, done while I was student teaching, allowed me to break down sometimes complicated concepts into simple examples that students could grasp. Managing the difference of abilities among students proved a difficult, but satisfying, challenge. I tailored activities to maintain the interest of high-level students without intimidating less skilled students. These lessons encouraged all students to work hard at achieving to the best of their individual abilities. I believe that each student should be challenged to reach his or her maximum level of personal and educational achievement. I look forward to speaking with you.
