elementary (k-6th) I have the wholesome and challenging experience of teaching two very inquisitive and restless youngsters – my son and daughter. When my kids were in elementary school they did need regular monitoring to ensure that they were on track with their class lessons and homework. I always felt that it would help if the student got some extra help outside the school; such assistance would help the student to go just a little further than what the school offered, and give the child that crucial edge in a competitive environment later on. While my formal teaching experience covers undergrad students, I have been actively involved with mentoring 4 to9-year-olds as volunteer in an orphanage. These children come from dysfunctional or non-existent homes, and have undergone physical hardship and emotional trauma, and have no stake in the conventional society with its norms of education and discipline. Handling them was a huge challenge to me, but I found the experience immensely fulfilling. Handling elementary school kids calls for energy, interest and patience; I believe that I can be an effective tutor to this student segment.
