My name is Shannon, and I am a music student at the Mannes College of Music in Manhattan. A graduate of the top-notch Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, NJ, I have experience in everything from graphic design to history to comparative religions to multiple instruments and, of course, music theory, ear training, history and composition.

I love children and have extensive experience working in an early childhood center, where I was responsible for supervision during play-to-learn time. I have key personal understanding of multiple intelligences, and have the ability to tailor my approach to a child or young adult's specific needs and talents.

I have taught music in formal and informal settings, and have even taught a for-credit on-the-roster music class at a public high school, complete with lesson plans and grades.

I am understanding and energetic, and hold the belief that ANYONE can learn, when they're taught in an natural, intuitive setting, and when they've been given the inspiration and self-confidence to be proactive in their education.

  I am a current music conservatory student double majoring in voice and composition. I have studied music theory and composition for over four years and have had several of my pieces performed in a school setting. I have a solid background in theory, both harmony and counterpoint, that forms the base of what I will teach while tutoring composition.

• ear training

  I am a current conservatory student with over three years experience in ear training. My own ear training ability includes rhythmical articulation, fluency on over five clefs, and the ability to take both tonal and atonal dictations. I bring the whole of my musical experience to the field of ear training, and teach from the same method and text used by America and Europe's finest conservatories--the Pasquale Bona Rhythmical Articulation, and the Danhauser Sight Singing manuals.

• music theory

  I am a current music conservatory student with four years of classical theory under my belt. My experience includes counterpoint and harmony, and I have the ability to coach through various analyses, invention writing, fugal exposition as well as first- through fifth-species counterpoint exercises.

• piano

  I am a current conservatory student and intermediate pianist. I have studied various technical exercises and have experience in public performance, interpretation and stylistic nuances of several periods of music. I am able to teach sight-reading and Leschetizky-method technique from a beginner to intermediate level.

• sight singing

  I am a current conservatory student with over four years of sight singing experience. With both an academic and a practical approach to sight singing, I can offer a complete method to students. I have gone through four levels of the Danhauser sight singing manual, used by most top-tier American and European conservatories, and am able to teach sight singing in both treble and bass cleff.

• voice (music)

  I am a current conservatory student with more than seven years experience studying voice. I have given recitals in North American and Europe, and have participated in recitals at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. I have experience with jazz and popular singing and believe in a healthy vocal technique that protects the voice without limiting sound production, creating a versatile, cross-style voice that will last a lifetime.
