About
Andrea: |
Hello, Students.
My name is Andrea and I am retired veteran of the United States Army. I have extensive experience in teaching English as a Second Language, English, Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. Because I am accustomed to diverse backgrounds and learning styles, I am capable of interacting with many people in different environments.
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Education (Post Secondary and Adult) from Capella University. Additionally, I received my post master's certificate in college teaching from Capella University. I received my MAeD in Curriculum and Instruction from American Intercontinental University and my undergraduate from Columbia College of Missouri. I am capable of teaching online and face to face. I currently teach in a residential treatment facility with male students between the ages of six through seventeen. These students are emotionally disturbed. My tutoring experience ranges from military instruction to adult students in English as A Second Language class to the students that I tutor when needed, after class at my facility.
My teaching style is participative and interactive. I lecture, when necessary but like to make my students feel as though there are an intregral part of the cognitive learning process. I believe in pushing students to their potential and beyond. A caring, patient, compassionate, but professional and firm teacher, I value the thoughts and ideas that my students share. Your opinion is very important to me, because it determines how I can bring out the very best in your academic performance. I see the educational process, as a learning experience and I believe that because every learner learns differently; my instruction must be adjusted to accommodate each learner's individual need. I love teaching and am currently fulfilling a childhood dream. I look forward to tutoring you so that you too can reach your fullest potential and goals.

I am requesting through this correspondence that I be granted the opportunity to submit a request for ESL instruction. I hold a Post Master’s certificate in College Teaching from Capella University, as well as a MAeD in Curriculum and Instruction from American Intercontinental University. My undergrate degree was completed from Columbia College of Missouri with a major in business and a minor in Business. I am working toward obtainment of a provisional certificate, as I prepare to become fully certified in this area. As I have experience in teaching postsecondary and technical students in beginning, low, high, advanced and master level of English as a Second Language and various basic and life skills courses, I would be most comfortable serving in this capacity. I am familiar with the most current methodologies and instructional strategies as applied to diverse populations. Additionally, I have experience in teaching eleven male emotionally disturbed students in a self contained classroom. The students’ ages range from six – seventeen and the subjects taught are Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Health and Reading. I am capable of serving this institution in a professional manner, while enforcing the policies and regulations, assisting with student recruitment and maintaining retention and job placement. My work ethic laced with professionalism, loyalty, commitment and a passion for education allows me to perform any assigned duties, as well as meet major deadlines with ease.
Thank you for you cooperation, patience and consideration.
Sincerely,
Andrea S. Wooten
