About
Kevin: |
|
Greetings--my name is Kevin, and I am a singer/songwriter, guitarist and producer living in Long Beach, CA. I studied audio production and music theory at the Indiana University School of Music, earning my bachelors degree in 1997. While living there I co-founded the progressive rock band Homunculus. Over the eight years that followed, we recorded four albums and performed an average of 200 shows a year, opening for the likes of Blues Traveler, G-love/Special Sauce, Matthew Sweet, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Cracker, The Barenaked Ladies, Better Than Ezra, and many others. I have experience teaching music at the middle school, high school, and collegiate level including classes in audio production, songwriting/lyricism, music theory, and guitar. I believe that music can give you great insight into yourself and your emotions, and that it can help us relate to one another. But above all, it's just pure fun and endlessly entertaining. |

I have been playing electric and acoustic guitar for 18 years, and I have been performing professionally (as a solo artist and with bands) for 12 years. I have studied with many great guitarists and musicians along the way, and I have taught private guitar lessons on and off over the last 6 years. I place a lot of emphasis on ear training and listening, in addition to proper technique and a bit of music theory. I studied music theory and audio production at the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, graduating in 1996 with a GPA of 3.7.

music theory

I studied music theory and ear training at the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, and graduated in 1996 with a GPA of 3.7. Because of my proficiency in music theory, I was accepted into the honors section for every theory course that offered them. I have applied this knowledge in my songwriting and compositions, and I have developed a highly personalized writing style by combining my musical intuition with my knowledge of music theory.

songwriting

I have written and recorded approximately 400 songs on 20 albums over the last 18 years, both as a solo artist and in the context of several rock bands. I studied audio production and music theory at the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington, and graduated in 1996 with a GPA of 3.7. I taught a songwriting course at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, and a song I co-wrote called "Cornelia" won an award in the 1998 John Lennon Songwriting contest. In addition to the technical aspects of writing songs, I place heavy emphasis on the relationship between the mind and the intuition during the creative process, as well as the psychology of writers block (using techniques and exercises to help to get over it).
