 About Kathleen:
Hello! Let me tell you a little about myself. First, I am a 53 year old woman. I have a 21 year old son who lives abroad and a 17 year old daughter who is a Senior in High School. I have been a French Substitute Teacher in the Cobb County School District for 10 years. I teach Middle School and High School. I have alot of experience with this age group and feel I have a special rapport with these young people. I also teach other Humanities based subjects, I do private tutoring, and I assist students with their written compositions. French however, is my love. I started studying that particular language after 5 years of Spanish. I was offered a choice in 8th grade and chose to switch to French. I became enamoured with everything French! I could not get enough of French History, French Literature, and the beautiful language of the French. My interest prompted me to continue in College with English as my major (another beautiful language!) and French as my minor. After graduating from College, I gained employment with an International Airline where I could use my French skills. I became a French Interpreter as well as a Flight Attendant and I spent about half of every month in France or on Flights between Paris and the United States. It was a dream job, but my priorities changed when my son was born in 1986. I loved the traveling, but I did not want to travel so far from my son. I chose to resign. It was a great decision and one I would not change if I had the chance all over again. I've managed to keep my French active via my substituting and keeping in touch with French friends. I have also taken Alliance Francaise classes for the enjoyment of it. I tell you this because I want to convey to you my love for the French Language. I hope I can impart some of my enthusiasm to your child, or to you. As far as my teaching style, I would say that I am patient and encouraging, creative and motivating. I will use visualization, word association, hands on techniques, games and all sorts of crazy memory joggers to instill a lesson. I am not shy and am quite comfortable to launch into role playing and will encourage my student to do the same. I think repetition is an important part of learning any vocabulary or grammatical structure, but there are many ways to repeat something without it sinking into mere boredom. I hope you will consider me to be a French Tutor for you or your child. I will make the lessons enjoyable and worthwhile. Thank you!
