elementary (k-6th) I have a masters plus a reading specialist endorcement in elementary education. I have taught in elementary schools for the last 23 years. I have received high evaluations from my superiors and have been placed as a mentor to new teachers entering the field of education. I have been the cooperative teacher for three student teachers in the past. Two of these teachers were hired by the district in which I am employed and have received high evaluations from the county. phonics As a first grade teacher, phonics is a discipline I use every day. I am a firm believer in phonics and feel that it is the key to a fluent reader. In my Reading Specialist classes, we were require to pass a phonics exam, ( I scored 100 ) and to teach a phonics lesson. In my twenty-two years as a first grade teacher, I have taught over almost 500 children to read using systematic phonics. special needs Although I have had no formal training in special needs, I have a passion for special needs children and have taught many through my career as a teacher. I have taught several children with physical disabilities, two bi-polor children, four children with autism, and numerous children with below average intelligence and / or developmental delayed, as well as children with behavioral disorders. However, I feel that all children have the right to a quality education and can learn if approached in the correct manner and style. I have experience great success with my special needs children.
