About Cynthia:

Instructing music to children is a naturally joyous experience for me! I currently work at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin as a residential instructor and music teacher where I have been employed since August of 2005. I interact with children with a wide range of disabilities and have worked intensively with autistic children and teenagers. Since January of 2008 I have been employed as a music teacher for two to six year olds at two local Montessori schools where my main job is playing the piano while teaching the kids new songs to sing. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a minor in Sociology. I can communicate in Spanish fairly well. My teaching style can be described as creative and attuned to the specific needs of each individual child.

More On Cynthia's Subjects:

  • piano

At the age of eight years old my musical journey took flight. I recieved formal piano training for three consecutive years that incorporated technique and music theory. I am skilled in reading sheet music thoroughly at the fourth level or greater, however, at this time I am only interested in tutoring up to level three. As music teacher for two through six year olds at two local montessori schools I am responsible for playing the piano while teaching the children new songs to sing. Basic music theory, musical terms, melody and rhythm are all introduced within the class lessons. At the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired I co-teach a weekly music class on campus to children and teenagers with a wide range of disabilities, many of whom are autistic. We explore different instruments during the class and compose songs. Through observation and intuition I design lesson plans to fit the nature of each child. I gently guide them toward the self-motivation necessary to achieve their highest potential and direct them in a creative manner which facilitates their ability to recognize their own inherent talent.
