Hello, my name is Jin. I love math and physics, and I study Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly, Pomona. I believe that all human beings can succeed academically if they are given the guidance, support and encouragement they need.
While education is one of the most fundamental keys to success in reality, math is one of the most important subjects in school. Students must pass a certain level of math before a degree is granted. As for many students, math is not an easy subject because of many complex equations and theories. However, once we develop the problem-solving techniques and reasoning skills, math will be fun.
Because of this, I understand what is really needed for students to successfully learn and pass all math courses with speed and accuracy. I believe that all human beings can succeed academically if they are given the guidance, support and encouragement they need. I have experiences in Pre-Algebra, Algebra One, Algebra Two, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus One, Calculus Two, Calculus Three, Differential Equation, SAT Math and Physics (AP and Engineering Levels). I have patience to help you developing the logical reasoning and problem-solving skills in math and physics, regardless of your situations. My commitment to you is success!
To determine a successful tutoring session, I consider these factors are most important: understanding, patience and encouragement.
First of all, being able to communicate fluently with the student in a tutoring session is primarily required for discovering their weakness, strength and particular style of learning and reasoning. It is essential to understand the students’ thought processes because each student is uniquely suited to a particular method. In order to lead students in a right direction, ask them what problems they are really having difficulty with and take the necessary time to explain the concepts to them. However, understanding the theories is fundamental but is not enough. Practice makes perfect, it’s better to use examples that will be easier for students to comprehend.
Furthermore, learning is a process. Students build up concepts gradually and examples may be used several times before they can fully understand. Therefore, as tutors, it’s important for us being patience to explain the processes to ensure their understandings. Also, let the students be aware of that we care by asking them “do you understand” frequently. In addition, it’s beneficial to know what students learn from school daily so that we can reinforce the theories by implementing examples in a tutoring session.
Finally, many teaching techniques are effective some students; meanwhile, they aren’t efficient with others. It’s our responsibility to determine a useful teaching method so that we can guide a student appropriately. In addition, we should never discourage students from learning by saying negative words under any circumstances. As professional tutors, we should motivate discouraged students and help them to construct confidence in solving complex math problems by understanding the concepts. However, we shouldn’t simply show the answers to the students, but assist them to develop the problem-solving techniques and strategies.
