Enthusiastic about learning and connecting with people of all ages, I love to teach, and I get excited at seeing a student's progress, whether it comes in small steps or in leaps and bounds. I am best qualified to teach French and all forms of communication, like public speaking, academic debate, writing, and dramatic interpretation of literature. Literature, history and government are favorite subjects of mine, too.
Beginning in 1987 I home educated our own four children all the way through to high school graduation, and have continually provided additional small group instruction at teaching co-ops and in "kitchen table classrooms" to other homeschooling families in the Richmond area. Over the years I have employed a wide variety of teaching approaches, and found that what works well with one student may not connect with the next one. So, when possible, I try to customize lessons to a student's unique learning style, all the while pursuing clear learning goals and expecting sincere effort from each student.
Learning should be enjoyable, and can even be fun. Education, I believe, involves directing students to find facts, discover connections and then apply critical thinking to gain understanding, eventually arriving at new knowledge, and eager to learn more.
