I have taught Preschool and Elementary school. I enjoy teaching students. I have been a tutor within the Los Angeles area for about five years now with grade six and below. My teaching style is to give the student practice of what they have learned in class. When a student doesn't understand a concept I will reteach it different ways so the student can understand what is being taught.

I have worked with students that are slow learners. I am comfortable using differential instruction for students with different styles of learning.

I have taught school for a little over 30 years. I have taught general education classes and special education classes. I prefer to teach or tutor the primary grade level.

• elementary (k-6th)

  I enjoy teaching on the elementary level. I have taught providing learning centers for children to learn the new concepts but having fun learning them. I incorporate a lot of hands on learning as I teach. Some children learn more when they are involved and doing something physically than just sitting at the desk and writing. I teach with student being very interactive with each other and writing on the board.

• phonics

  Phonics is fun to learn. Learning the letters then each sound the letters make. Then putting two and three letters together and making sounds becomes more fun. You are then on your way to reading and learning a whole world of new things. Phonics can be fun with DVDs and CDs. Singing the sounds out is a fun way to learn and remember.

• special needs

  I have taught students with different learning styles. I teach the students at there level cognitively and then I assist them in progressing toward their grade level. I enjoy making learning fun and enjoyable for the students. I do a lot of physical responses to lessons that I teach. Some students have to keep moving so in my teaching they can move as they learn. I have worked in the Special Education classrooms so I am familiar with teaching at a slower pace and then teaching that same thing different ways so the student can comprehend.

• ESL/ESOL

  In teaching ESL I teach with pictures and showing words that relate to the pictures. In that activity they learn the new words and see what it is. There are games that are played to test the students knowledge after they have been taught the words. I also let the students interact with each other so they can become comfortable speaking what they have learned.
