I am a certified special educator with a highly qualified status in ELA. I work well with students in 4th grade through 8th and have taught both general education and special education students in NO. I enjoy both 1 on 1 and small group sessions. I have a son with dyslexia who is now getting his Masters and another son with ADHD. This personal experience has prepared me in ways regular teaching could not.
I was laid off from the RSD in NO when my school closed and have decided to see what other options may be avialable for me. I have been screened and fingerprinted and can provide references, both personal and professional. I believe any child can learn and it is up to teachers to find a way! I have used hip-hop lyrics to teach poetry to 16-17 year old 8th graders. I have supported shy students whose love of reading, but lack of confidence prohibited them from performing at the level they were. I have celebrated small victories and mourned sad losses and still stayed focused on the task at hand-education, the great leveler. I am willing to travel some to tutor and currently have a very flexible schedule. I enjoy working with a diverse population and age is one of those diversity issues we sometimes forget. As a mature tutor, I am able to handle and motivate even students who would rather NOT be with me! I look forward to helping with you or your child's educational support needs.
