More On Michael's Subjects

  • zoology

While in graduate school at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State Univ.-San Marcos), I taught Zoology labs for five semesters. It required that I follow the lecture course work in the same sequence--from very primitive life forms to complex animals. I gave a short lecture for each new phylum and discussed what the students should look for that made it unique, or an advancement in complexity from the previous phyla. Then we examined the specimens to observe what we discussed. I was also responsible for testing and grading. The best compliment that I received from my students was that I made it interesting, and it finally made sense to some that were having difficulty with the lecture portion of the class.
