My name is Jeanne. I have been an elementary teacher in the public school system for the last 29 years. In that time period, I have taught grades 1,2,3,4 and 6th grade. For the last 8 years, I was the head fourth grade teacher at Valley Elementary in Preston County, West Virginia. Our 4th grade was departmentalized, so I taught all of the social studies and West Virginia history.
I have tutored with ESylvan. This is a division of the Sylvan Corporation. It is a specialized tutoring system that works online. My job was to tutor students of grade school through high school in reading and math. It was so much fun to get to "meet" through the internet, students from all over the country (and a few from overseas as well!)
I have also been an after school tutor with a federally funded program called Project ISAAC. This program was offered free of charge to students attending Valley Elementary, where I taught during the day. I worked with 2nd-5th graders on their homework assignments and also enrichment activities. With this same program, I was the reading tutor during our summer school months, plus the Head Coordinator of the summer school program in 2005.
I was so honored last year to be named Valley Elementary's Teacher of the Year!
