I am an experienced tutor working with students in all grades on their learning issues. I have my own tutoring practice, Academic and Language Skills Tutoring. My focus is on reading, composition, comprehension, critical thinking, oral and written expression, study skills, and time management. I am a retired lawyer and have been tutoring professionally since 2003. Prior to that, I did volunteer tutoring with a non-profit organization for a number of years. I chose tutoring as my second career because I love working with young people and helping them to improve their academic skills and self-confidence. I am certified in the Phono-Graphix program to teach reading and in Junior Great Books (a critical thinking program). I also have completed training in Wilson Overview, Read Naturally, and Lindamood Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing. I have 40 years experience with oral and written expression through my work as an attorney, but I have also written many pieces for lay readers. I believe that students learn in different ways. I help students to identify and use their most successful strategies for achieving their academic goals. I am a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Law School.
