Kristen K. - Tutor in Colorado Springs, CO (80907)

I am currently a teacher in Academy School District 20 and am looking to open my own tutoring business. I subcontract with two local tutoring businesses teaching math and science, however my passion is writing and teaching reading. My Bachelors degree is in Sport Science and I have a strong background in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and physics. I am also finishing my final project for a Masters degree in Education. It has been my goal to get out of public school so I can work more flexibly with students who struggle in the normal classroom setting. I have background in teaching gifted, special needs, and regular learners. Although I work on specific curriculum with tutorees, I also help develop life-long learning skills to provide each student with independence for future situations.

elementary (k-6th)

I currently hold a Colorado Teaching License for Early Elementary, which includes Kindergarten through Sixth grades. I am completing my project for a Masters Degree in Education. I have previously taught Fifth grade, K-5 Gifted and Talented, and am currently teaching Third grade. I have also been a Science Enrichment Instructor and an After-School Program Director. Previously, I wrote articles and did layout design for the Colorado State University newspaper. I have been a district grader for Six-Plus-One Trait Writing and trained in the use of Layers of Success. I have been trained in a variety of achievement and ability tests for groups and individuals. Other trainings include the inquiry processes of teaching Junior Great Books and Developing Mathematical Ideas; the organizational approach of Thinking Maps; and how to implement menues, literature circles, skill groups, and novel groups into the regular classroom. My professional development has been primarily in how to adjust my instruction to meet the abilities and special needs of all students.
