I was born in Cameroon, Central Africa where I grew up speaking as my first language French. I learned a little English at the time as parts of my country spoke English. I also had an opportunity at the high school level to study Spanish. When I came to the United States two years ago, I immediately began studying English as my plans were to remain in the U.S. I had an English instructor at the house where I lived who drilled us 2 to 3 times a week in the language. I also attended Wayne State studying in the English program called ELI (English Language Institute). I studied as well with a conversation partner provided by a local church where I also attended on Wednesday evenings for a fall and a spring semester an ESL (English as a Second Language) class which was very profitable for me in helping me with my pronunciation. As I was able to also begin working in the U.S. in a nursing care career, I also began using the English in a very practical way, speaking each day with people on the job in a working environment. I continue to work with an English conversation partner for the sake of working on many idioms and expressions that I need for the English language spoken in America. I am very conversant now in English and can translate for people very well what is spoken in French which I am fully conversant in as it is my native language. I spent time in the university, I tutored many students in their French to help them in their studies to prepare them for their exams. Here, in the states, I have also worked with people in helping them by tutoring in English although they are speakers of French. I have have a lot of interaction in working between the two languages of French and English as well as having a general understanding of Spanish. I am interested in continuing to tutor French learners with the background and experience that I have to help them achieve their goal of speaking French with a good understanding and grasp of idiomatic phrases and proper pronunciation.
