Hi,
My name is Carol. I am a Grandma with three grandchildren. I volunteered in my childrens elementary school as a teachers' assistant---many years ago. Alot of the assistance was with reading and phonics through 3rd grade. I operated my own day care, and have worked in day care centers. I have been a tutor for the Childrens Literacy program in Colorado Springs, and a Big Sister in the Big Brother Big Sister Program in Phoenix.
I haven't tutored in the past few years but I know how it is to struggle while trying to learn and how easy it is to fall through the cracks. Most of my students have been those that know enough to get by, but need a little extra one-on-one. My style is semi-structured and easy going. We will use sight words as well as phonics, puzzles, word games, reading and have lots of fun!!!
One of my favorite hobbies is reading. I was raised on books--my aunt was a librarian-and feel that reading is an essential part of life, not just a necessity. I would very much like to help you get a good start in the reading world---hopefully making it a very enjoyable pasttime.
