My name is Denise Walden. I love teaching. I have been working with children of all ages for the last 20 years. I am currently teaching 3rd grade for the Escambia County school district. This will be my 5th year.
I was voted the 2009 "Teacher of the Year" for my school. I am also the "Teacher of the Month" for the upcoming issue of "Gulf Coast Parent."
I consider myself a dedicated, results driven teacher. I have a, what some might call, "hands-on" approach to teaching. I believe that children construct knowledge by "doing" rather than watching or listening. There are times when that means I provide additional support to struggling students. I search to find a level where the student can work independently, and then support the student as I help him/her learn skills that may be new or more challenging. I am not the type of teacher who thinks, "Ok, we covered it, you didn't get it, but we have to move on."
I have a saying that is posted at the front of my classroom. It definitely sums up my philosophy. "You Never Fail, Until You Quit Trying." I am always searching and looking for different ways to present information so that all of my students are successful. I have no problem going back to the "drawing board" again and again, until I have reached every student.
Thank You for Your Consideration,
Denise Walden
