About Denise

My name is Denise Walden. I love teaching. I have been working with children of all ages for the last 20 years. I am currently teaching 3rd grade for the Escambia County school district. This will be my 5th year.
I was voted the 2009 "Teacher of the Year" for my school. I am also the "Teacher of the Month" for the upcoming issue of "Gulf Coast Parent."
I consider myself a dedicated, results driven teacher. I have a, what some might call, "hands-on" approach to teaching. I believe that children construct knowledge by "doing" rather than watching or listening. There are times when that means I provide additional support to struggling students. I search to find a level where the student can work independently, and then support the student as I help him/her learn skills that may be new or more challenging. I am not the type of teacher who thinks, "Ok, we covered it, you didn't get it, but we have to move on."
I have a saying that is posted at the front of my classroom. It definitely sums up my philosophy. "You Never Fail, Until You Quit Trying." I am always searching and looking for different ways to present information so that all of my students are successful. I have no problem going back to the "drawing board" again and again, until I have reached every student.
Thank You for Your Consideration,
Denise Walden

I have been working with children of varying ages for 20 years. I am currently teaching 3rd grade for the Escambia County School District. I was voted the 2008-2009 "Teacher of the Year" for my school. I received this honor as a result of voting done by my coworkers and professional peers. I am the "Gulf Coast Parent" magazine's November "Teacher of the Month. I was chosen by "Gulf Coast Parent" because of an essay submitted by one of my previous students. I love learning! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of West Florida. I enjoyed every class I took. I believe that my enthusiasm for learning influences my students. My hope is that they are inspired to become "life long learners." The "Gulf Coast Parent" honor can serve as evidence that I have been successful. Statistical evidence of my teaching ability can be found in the FCAT scores of students in my classes. I have been able to maintain 78% or higher average of students scoring at level 3 or above in Reading and Math. One of my previous students earned a perfect score on the Reading portion of the test. I am the type of teacher who will always try to find a way to reach every child, even if it means presenting the information in several different ways. I take pride in my efforts to find ways to take information and present it so that it makes sense to all of my students. Thank you for your consideration. Mrs. W
