More On Debra's Subjects

elementary (k-6th)

My education and career history has placed me in front of groups teaching multiple topics. I have received a Zenger Miller Frontline Leadership certification and have had to learn to speak on any topic given to me. I enjoy teaching children and guiding their growth. I have a lot of practical experience from the business environment and also classroom experience through the American Red Cross. I taught a variety of topics like First Aid, CPR and Preparing your business for a flu pandemic. I was a certified teacher with the American Bankers Association and taught Personnel and the Law to Bankers. In my current Human Resources Consulting business, I spend a great deal of time studying the topics and teaching business owners, management how to comply with the laws and practices of the business world in compliance with government agencies.

phonics

Make learning to read fun! Learning letters and their sounds and stringing them together using phonics helps to avoid future frustration. My experience as a mom, an instructor and a business professional who performs public speaking is a good foundation for helping the student succeed.

business

As Director of the American Red Cross in Tippecanoe County I essentially ran my own business. Budgeting, fundraising, management, marketing, working with a Board of Directors, compliance, risk management and Human Resources were just a few of the skills I utilized on a daily basis. Prior to this position, I was the Director of Human Resources for the midwest region of a bank. There too I had to handle all aspects of my department as well as participate in all HR functions with all layers of management to ensure proper handling of the personnel. There were approximately 300 on staff. I went to the bank after my organization relocated to another state. I was an AVP and director of operations - again, extensive business background including all items listed above except fund raising. So, if you are looking for practical business experience and direction, I think I can help you.

public speaking

Public Speaking - one of the things that puts your nerves on high alert!!! I have spoken in front of a group of 500 with 15 minutes preparation and small groups with extensive preparation. The more you do it, the better you will be. With some preparation techniques, taught to me by a professional, I overcame the fear and have learned to enjoy this venue. This skill has served me well as I make presentations or teach a class about specific topics or as I function in my business. I have used it in the media and to raise money as well. Conquer your fears!
