About Neville

I love helping people; especially when there is an issue and I am able to solve or resolve it. I love helping young people with their school work. I have been able to find ways to make that difficult area of the subject easy to understand. I believe this achieved by understanding the student's learning style. I also like to make learning fun and relevant while emphasizing the importance of an education. Depending on the subject matter, we may take a trip to the museum to further enhance the learning experience.

I have been tutoring for five years and I have tutored in subjects such as Math, English, Science from the elementary to high school levels and some college courses. At present I am a volunteer tutor for the Holy Tabernacle Community Development program which is located in NYC. This program is a christian based initiative designed to better the commuinity by offering various free programs. Not only do I help students learn but it becomes an learning opportunity for me as well. I believe this happens when I am able to understand a particular learning style or learn the potential of a student.

My teaching style is one that is very direct but very patient because I understand that everyone does not learn at a fast pace. Since this is true, then it is not the speed at which you learn that matters. What matters is the determination to go all the way.

  • Good Tutor!

Hi my review to my tutor Neville is very good. He's patient with my daughter and I know he's very concerned about the learning of multiplication with my daughter. Me and my daughter very comfortable with him which is excellent. He is a very outgoing person and respectful. We are going to keep up with Neville until Yoly masters multiplication.

  • Great Tutor and very patient

Neville has been doing a great job with my son Daniel. He understands what Daniel needs help in and gets right to the point with patience. I have had three lessons with Neville and will continue until Daniel is prepared for his grade level. Thank you so much Neville keep up the good work.

More On Neville's Subjects

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have been tutoring children, ages 4-11, in the basics of math, english and science for the past five years. I have an expert knowledge of the elementary levels of the subjects listed above. For math, I try to make it a visual learning experience by using objects, things they see everyday; especially when it comes to solving word problems that involve subtraction and addition. I have the ability to make multiplication very easy simply by adding the multiplier to the previous answer to get the present answer. For english, I enjoy the grammar as well as the compositional structure. When you can master the English language, reading and comprehension will not be a problem. I also focus on learning words syllabically, and phonetically. How we pronounce words is very important. Comprehension is an integral part of the reading experience, so that is also a focus for me. Your reading experience will be heightened when you can understand what you are reading. For science, I can focus on the basics of biology(pertaining to plant and animal life), chemistry (periodic table, elemental combination(i.e.: water), and earth science(pertaining to the different typed of rock and soil, etc.) Now what I usually do is see what it is that the student is learning in class, discuss what their difficulty with the subject is and then begin from there.

  • Bible studies

I have been in the church for 17 years. At the age of 21 I made a commitment to God and dedicated my life to him. I have been in Sunday school class since. I have taken bible study classes covering Genesis to Revelations. I believe that a healthy understand of the Bible and what God expects of us as Christians, will empower us in our endeavor in making this world a better place for our children. And since you can never really get enough of an understanding of the Bible, I am presently in a Bible study class, again. I am privileged to having become a licensed minister in the State of NY. I am also a Sunday school teacher and I am well equipped to assist students in their pursuit of knowledge of the Bible. I enjoy teaching the Bible and I enjoy helping others understand the Bible
