Hello!
My name is Rachael! I recently completed my teacher certification at UWM and am now a licensed grade 1-8 teacher. I graduated previously from UW-Madison with a BA in German and History. As you may have guessed, I am bilingual and speak German fluently.
Over the past few years, I have had a chance to experience many different scenarios in the world of education. I worked as an after-school attendant in a high-risk elementary school, tutored a middle school student one-on-one during class, worked as a literacy tutor for the SPARK program, tutored adults in preparation for their GED tests, taught German classes for adults in the city of Milwaukee, tutored foreign exchange students and/or study abroad students in conversational English, as well as the plethora of experiences awarded to me during my time at the School of Education for UWM, including my student teaching.
My core belief is that education is the ladder that can help us expand our opportunities and ability. However, things don't always click right away and some extra support is needed. (I've been there!) I don't give supply answers. I think people learn best when in a state of confusion and then work through the problem. Often, even explaining your process to another person will give you the "ah-ha" you've been waiting for! I ask a lot of questions to help push the understanding and develop it. When you can clearly explain a concept, process, etc to another person, that's when you know you've got it! :)
I'd say I'm quirky, but fun loving and most certainly not a quitter. I have plenty of patience and love to try new ideas or tactics- anything to get it! Tutoring shouldn't be looked at as a drag or punishment- which is why I like to keep it light, but focused. I'd love to help; that's what I'm here for!
