I tutored my first student while I was a college student. The student improved greatly and everyone was happy with the results. I continued to teach from the elementary school to the graduate school level. I love teaching students individually because I know that when they learn and become better students, I have done a good job. I want students to achieve and find ways to avoid boredom at school. I am a very active teacher, who likes to know what the student needs and how the student learns. I am a mentor/consultant with a national organization where I work with public schools, K-12. In this organization, I train teachers to improve their teaching and I show them different ways of teaching.

I want students to be open and to ask questions when they do not understand. I will work my very best to give students engaging and fun sessions. Hopefully my students will enjoy school more as a result of working with me.

I am bilingual, Spanish and English. Teaching for me is my career and I care about each and every one of my students. I love teaching and learning.

elementary (k-6th)

I was an elementary school teacher K-8 for three years in a New York City Public School. I taught all content areas and created thematic units around a concept. Lessons in each of the major subject areas, such as; Science, Math, Social Studies were developed. I will engage students in learning according to their age and interest which raises their motivation for learning. I make instruction relevant to their world by knowing the student's interest and how what they are learning are related to their interests. When I was an adjunct professor at Adelphi University, I taught teachers many listening, reading and writing techniques that have a research basis. The techniques used help students to accelerate their learning and assist students to achieve the competence and confidence needed to master content area instruction. I taught my graduate students to create thematic units to facilitate the learning of a concept through all the content areas. In education, we call this integrating instruction which means that they learn all the subject under a big, board idea. In the early grades, the big idea may be "family", at the middle-school it may be "independence" and at the high school level it may be "conflict". It is my goal for every student to succeed at his or her highest level of performance.

ESL/ESOL

I received an M.A. from Adelphi University in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I am New York State Licensed to teach ESL/ESOL to students grade K-6 and 7-12. I taught ESL part-time at Brooklyn College Adult Continuing Education for five years. I taught ESL in public schools at the elementary, middle-school, and high school levels for over 15 years. My students have commented on their improvement in their language skills, which include listening, speaking, reading and writing. I assess each student to know their level of language proficiency and begin from that point to accelerate student's language learning. I can use your texts or materials or bring my own materials and techniques. You will master the English language with the confidence of a native speaker with the tutoring I offer. I am a personable and empathetic to language learning. I also learned a foreign language and understand the frustrations involved in learning another language.
