About Michael

I love information and learning, but I don't think either one should be boring.

I have found that sometimes the things that I've had trouble understanding or doing were not necessarily things I wasn't good at. For example, it took me a long time to get over my fear of deep water and it took me just as long to learn how to swim. Once I was taught, however, I became a competitive swimmer for over ten years and earned a college scholarship.

I studied writing at the University of Pittsburgh. I minored in theatre performance. I was a teaching assistant at a high school for two years and received my English teaching license. I also worked with students in math and history.

Helping people overcome challenges rather than avoiding them is something that is very important to me.

More On Michael's Subjects

swimming

Human beings are naturally meant to live on the land, but with the right techniques they can be faster in the water than most aquatic animals. I was a competitive swimmer for 12 years including high school and college where I received an athletic scholarship to swim. With the right teacher swimming can become as natural as walking and as fun as running and jumping.

theatre

Theatre is captivating and artistic. I have been performing since junior high school. I studied theatre in college. Now, I continue to pursue careers as an actor, improvisor and comedian. I am at home on the stage and the only thing that comes close to that enjoyment in helping others to feel the same way. The right teacher can help you learn the basics and build your talent for theatre.

public speaking

"Peoples' number one fear is public speaking. Their number two fear is death. That means if you were at a funeral, you'd rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy." -- Jerry Seinfeld. If you've ever been afraid to answer a question that you knew the answer to just because you'd need to say it in front of the class; if you've avoided asking a question for the same reason; if you look for the exit if the there's even a possibility you might need to stand and speak in front of a group of people--then you need to work on public speaking. You need it for your school, your job, your socializing and you life. From dramatic arts clubs and school plays to academic and athletic functions to improvising, acting, stand-up comedy and teaching I have been speaking in front of crowds for my whole life. I can help a person overcome his or her fears and explain techniques that will help make someone comfortable in front of an "audience."
