About Taisha

My name is Taisha, and I love helping someone reach a deeper level of understanding and confidence in their studies. I graduated from Mercer Island High School (one of the top schools in WA state) as valedictorian, and attended Columbia College at Columbia University in New York City for a semester during the fall of 2008. I'm currently on a leave of absence from Columbia while I pursue a professional ballet career, dancing with Carolina Ballet in Raleigh, NC. I feel confident tutoring anyone in elementary school through entry-level college material, in math, science, reading, writing, and SAT prep, or any combination that fits a student's individual needs.

I scored 5 out of 5 on Advanced Placement exams in Calculus AB and Physics C (Mechanics), as well as an 800 out of 800 on the Math SAT II, and a 770 out of 800 on the SAT II in Literature. I was awarded the Wellesley College Book Award and was a National Merit Semi-Finalist.

Much more important than the list of scores and awards, however, is my ability to relate the material to students, make complicated topics accessible, and help students actually enjoy the learning process. I spent a semester as a Teacher's Assistant for AP Physics, where I created an answer key for the entire year's homework that explained how to do each problem in a way that was understandable, which my teacher has continued to use on all his future classes. I have a 14 year old brother who I spent many hours tutoring in everything from trigonometry to how to interpret Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" (which he liked enough that he was convinced to go see the ballet, even though his sister was not dancing in it).

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all, and I look forward to getting the chance to work with you and your student.
