I have worked as a teacher for twelve years. I taught English, Ecology, and Economy classes in Mexico for six years. I taught Spanish, remedial math, and advanced reading classes in the USA for six years. I won an Excellence in Education Grant in the state of Michigan.
I believe that as a teacher it is my responsibility to develop basic academic content knowledge, foster critical thinking skills, and inspire students to learn and truly value knowledge.
I am student centered in my approach. I get to know my students; who they are, where they come from, and what their interests are. I pay attention to their different ways of learning and believe in the importance of an education that is truly multicultural and focuses on multiple intelligences.
I believe in the effectiveness of cooperative learning techniques. I keep my students actively involved in their own learning. I use communicative language learning techniques in the foreign language classroom because I have seen their effectiveness.
In every aspect of learning I try to foster critical thinking skills because these skills will enable students to apply what they learn to their own lives, schools, and communities.
If I can instill a passion for learning and knowledge in my students, they will become lifelong learners. They will not only retain the information I have taught them, but will also be able to build on that base.
